General Joseph M. Martin

General Joseph M. Martin is a retired U.S. Army Four-Star officer and most recently served as the Vice Chief of Staff, Army-responsible for running a 1.3-million-person global organization with an operating budget of $173 billion. During his 37 years in the Army, he commanded conventional military forces at every level. His career included 5 combat tours in Iraq. Notably, he led a 20-country coalition that successfully liberated Mosul, Iraq from the Islamic State Caliphate. He preceded his assignment as the Vice Chief of Staff as the Director of the Army Staff, Commanding General First Infantry Division and the Commanding General of the United States Army National Training Center.

Martin was recently recognized by the University of Louisville as the 2021 Alumni of the Year.

Martin is a 1986 graduate of the United States Military Academy and earned master’s degrees from the University of Louisville and the Army War College. He and his wife Leann have two grown children. The Martins reside in Keller, Texas.
